You can typically see a provider without a referral from a primary care physician (PCP), as long as they accept Medicare and the Aetna plan terms. In most cases, your out-of-pocket costs may be less if you visit an in-network provider.

Do Aetna Medicare PPO plans require a referral?

With an Aetna Medicare Advantage PPO plan, you don’t need a referral from a PCP to see a specialist. In fact, you aren’t required to designate a PCP with an Aetna Medicare Advantage PPO plan.
