Aetna MedicareSM Plan (HMO)
With an Aetna health maintenance organization (HMO) plan, you have access to a network of medical providers and facilities.
This network includes thousands of health care professionals. And it can include in-network coverage when you travel in the U.S., depending on where you are and the plan’s network coverage.
Aetna Medicare Advantage HMO plans typically require you to select a primary care provider (PCP). Your PCP can give you referrals for specialist visits and hospital care.
Aetna Medicare Prime Plan (HMO)
This plan gives you access to a local network of health care providers and facilities.
To ensure coverage, you are typically required to use network providers for your care, except for out-of-network emergency situations or urgent care.
Aetna MedicareSM Plan (PPO)
An Aetna preferred provider organization (PPO) plan gives you access to a nationwide network of medical providers and facilities.
It also gives you the flexibility to visit out-of-network providers. However, your out-of-pocket costs will typically be lower when you visit providers in the plan’s network. And you don’t need referrals to see a specialist.
Aetna Medicare Prime Plan (PPO)
An Aetna Medicare Prime Plan (PPO) also gives you the freedom to choose from a local network of provider options.
You can visit any doctor in or out of the plan's network, as long as they accept Medicare and the Aetna plan terms. However, it will typically cost you less to use providers in the plan’s network.
